                            Thorns Story - Prologue
    Mittens padded along the street remembering what had happened that week. Her two-legs had left her. She remembered how they had packed up all their stuff and just left. Mittens had waited a week for them to return but now she was hungry and homeless, she had lost her hope in their return and now she looked back at her home for the last time.

    As Mittens turned back around she noticed movement in a near by ally. "Is some one their," she called out. She got no answer, but she felt uneasy about walking past the ally so she turned and went down a different ally. Mittens was half way down the ally when two cats blocked the ends. The cat in front of her was a huge black and white cat with a dark blue collar. Mittens looked at his collar again and noticed than it was studded with dogs teeth. She shuddered.

    "Look what we have here, Claw." The huge cat sneered. Claw must be the cat behind me, Mittens thought. Claw was about as big as her and he was all white except for a brown spot on his chest. He also had a dogtooth studded collar, but his was yellow.

    "Wh-who are you," Mittens whispered. She was terrified. The huge tom ignored her and continued to speak with Claw.

    "It appears this kitty doesn't know how to stay out of Bloodclan territory."

    "Well then I think she needs to be taught a lesson," Claw chuckled.

    "Please, I didn't know," Mittens whimpered as the two cats advanced on her. She had no chance of escape unless she climbed the walls. She leaped at the wall and started clawing her way up. She looked down at the cats below her and noticed the look of shock and anger on their faces. she reached the top of the wall and was about the pull herself over when she saw a small black cat crouched on top. He had blue eyes and one white paw. Mittens was so startled that she slipped and fell. Mittens landed with a hard thump and lay there, stunned. She moaned as Claw leaned over her and griped her scruff in his teeth. He yanked her up and dragged her over to where the huge tom sat.

    The huge tom cuffed her hard on the side of the head and it left her ears ringing. Mittens tried to get up but Claw held her down. "You made me very mad with that escape attempt," the tom whispered. "Oh and my name is Bone."

    Mittens struggled to get away and in the process she managed to get a good swipe at Claw. He Hissed as a drop of blood fell from his muzzle. "Oh, You'll pay for that, kitty!" Claw raised his paw and raked her flank. Mittens screeched in pain. She looked up at the stars trying to hold back tears and noticed the black tom on top of the house. He's just watching this, Mittens thought.

    She was still looking up at him when Bone yanked her up by the scruff and flung her against the wall. Mittens was fighting to stay awake now and her vision was fuzzy. "I'm going to kill you kitty," Bone sneered. That comment terrified Mittens. She got up and tried to claw at Bone but he bit her paw and twisted her to the ground. Claw pinned her and Bone cuffed her over and over again. Mittens was so close to passing out.

    Bone raised his paw, claws glinting in the moonlight, to take his killing blow. Mittens closed her eyes. Right as Bone brought his paw down there was an ear splitting yowl. "STOP!"

    Mittens never felt Bones claw on her neck, and she heard paws land next to her. "We will not kill this one, she is a fighter, but she is way to weak for you Bone." Mittens opened her eyes to see the cat from the top of the house standing next to her. He looked down at her, "my name is Scourge, and you are?"

    Mittens was about to answer, but then she thought about it. My name is to soft she thought. "My name," she whispered, "my name is Thorn." Then her world fell away.
